Niles Beach

Niles Beach

Niles isn't a dive site we set necessarily drive out to Cape Ann to find. It's not a bad site, but it's not as good as many of the other sites.

The entry at Niles couldn't be easier. The sand beach has short stairways from the parking area. Parking is an issue. It's all marked for residents. Off-season, though, it doesn't seem to be enforced.

We found rock formations and wildlife on a dive one October day by heading to the right (looking out from the parking area). We swam on the surface out to the first set of lobster buoys, then dropped down about 18 feet to the bottom. At this point the bottom was eel grass, and a skate and I startled each other. From there we continued north, seeing some fish, many sea stars, and the usual assortment of crabs and such.
